A Place of Tranquil Passion

I was watching a PBS show about the artist Paul Cezanne. In his letters he mentions his childhood was nurtured by the natural surroundings of his country home…a place of tranquil passion. That description resonated with my own childhood experiences and the nature centered childhoods other like-minded souls have shared with me. It is so right, so healthy for children to grow up in natural surroundings...sacred sanctuaries in which we are allowed to create in order to play. Given the gift of such quiet, empty, creative space our child selves respond by building and weaving and dancing and singing into being, with improvisatory and passionate wonder, an inner landscape from which we gather inspiration, courage and hope.

Praise God for the joys of silence, creative spirit and easy laughter.
