Let Them Eat Cookies!

The old man had just turned 103 and was failing rapidly. Sadly, the doctor informed his wife that her sickly husband had barely a day or two left.

The next day as he lay weak in his bed, the old man smelled the distinct aroma of freshly baked cookies wafting from the kitchen. Despite his weakness and pain, he could not rid the thought of biting just one last time into a delicious, warm and chewy chocolate chip cookie.

Slowly and painfully, he slipped his frail body from the bed and crawled on trembling hands and knees to the kitchen. As he reached up to the table top to grasp a warm cookie on the tray, he felt the sharp slap of a metal spatula sting on his knuckles.

"You leave those alone!" snapped his wife. "They're for the funeral!"

NOTE: My grandpa is 97 years old and loves cookies. My cousin sent this newspaper clipping to him in her Thanksgiving card.
